"Gathered in Christ, we are called to bring light to our community."

Community Food Ministries
Saturday Community Fellowship Meals
Gloria Dei serves a weekly meal, alternating with groups from Faith Lutheran, First United Methodist, and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The meals are offered each Saturday, 11:00a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Central Avenue, Coos Bay. Our Gloria Dei group cooks and serves on the first Saturday of each month. We research recipes and plan the meals, and our team assists with the preparation, serving, and clean up. A free will offering is collected, but the majority of our food expenses are covered by grants. Although attendance at our lunches varies, our Saturday meal ministry is a blessing for everyone. The guests are always appreciative of the special menus and our group is pleased to serve. We wear our Gloria Dei aprons and t-shirts, happy to represent our congregation in the community.

WELCA - Currently on Hold

WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) meets monthly during the school year around the theme of "Who Is Our Neighbor". Although the name of the group indicates "women", this group welcomes all people. We are pleased to have men join us each month as well as many people from the community who are not members of Gloria Dei. We enjoy a wonderful lunch each month put on by the WELCA Kitchen Team and a speaker from the community about needs and services. We have learned a lot about who our neighbors are in this community and how we might go about working with them.
