Church Ministries

Ministry Opportunities

Please contact the Gloria Dei Church office, 541-267-2347 if you are interested in one or more of the ministries. They will be able to provide more information and a contact to talk to.

Some ministries are elected by the congregation or by special appointment as noted.  If interested in being nominated let the office know and we’ll see about getting you nominated

Altar Guild-Cares for altar paraments and banners to match church year seasons and holidays.  Sets up for communion services.  Volunteers sign up in the Narthex to select dates of service.

Audit Ministry-Mandated in the constitution to perform an annual audit of the financial records.  The endowment fund is generally reviewed at a separate meeting. Must be voting members of the congregation with experience and knowledge of financial statements and procedures.  Elected at the annual meeting

Starkey Intern House Ministry-Monitors the Intern House operation and condition.    Maintains the grounds of the Intern House.

Building Ministry- Develop and manage physical church infrastructure.   Responsible for appearance including decorations and art, outside of sanctuary and narthex.

Christian Education- Plans and provides a Sunday School program that will nurture understanding of biblical teachings and faith development.  Oversees plans for Vacation Bible School.

Coffee Hour Ministry-Provides refreshments and hospitality following the late church service.

Community Meal Ministry- Coordinates with other churches in the area to provide a monthly community meal on the 2nd Saturdays.

Congregation Council-The Congregation Council has general oversight of the life and activities of the congregation, its worship life, its financial and property matters and its personnel matters; and sees that the provisions of the Constitution, by-laws, and continuing resolutions are carried out.  Elected at the annual meeting.

Endowment Ministry-Establishes and supports ministries and stewardship opportunities additional to and apart from the general operation of the congregation.  The endowment fund is solely funded by financial gifts.  Elected at the annual meeting.

Finance Ministry-Supports the Congregation Council in financial matters.    The Treasurer has a key role and presents financial reports and the annual budget; and, working closely with the Bookkeeper, monitors the financial activities of the church.

Fundraising Ministry-Raises funds for church projects as requested by the Congregation Council.

Grounds Ministry-Maintains the church grounds

Happy Soles and Prayer Shawl Knitting Ministry-Knits socks, hats, prayer shawls or miscellaneous items to provide comfort and warmth to all people.

Homeless Outreach Ministry-To communicate Homeless Outreach programs most current needs to the congregation and then collect and deliver donations to the ARK (homeless youth) and Devereux Center.

Hospitality Pod-Assures that all visitors and congregational members are greeted at the door each Sunday before service and at special services when needed.  Responsible for appearance of the narthex.

Internship Ministry-Works closely with the intern to support them during their year of internship at Gloria Dei. By invitation of Pastor or current intern.

Kitchen Ministry-Works to assure proper training for use of kitchen by Gloria Dei and community members.

Library Ministry-Provides, organizes, and updates library materials for inspiration, evangelism, worship enrichment, stewardship, witness, service, and personal enjoyment.

Logos Players-Provides an affordable social outlet to enhance ministry to the community.  Half of the proceeds support the charity of choice.

Memorial Ministry-Oversees the use of the Memorial Fund

Mutual Ministry Ministry-Teams with the Pastor to increase support of the congregation for the goals of the church.  Serves as a sounding board for new ideas.  Supports a healthy relationship and growth between the Pastor and the people and further the mission of Christ.  Members designated by the Pastor.

Nominating Ministry-Compiles and presents a complete slate of nominees for open positions to the congregation at the annual meeting.  Six voting members are elected at the annual meeting.

Nursery Ministry-Staffs, equips and provides general support for the nursery.  Must be a 6-month church member, agree to a background check, and sign the Child Abuse Policy.

Parish Health & Wellness Ministry-Enhances the wellness among the congregation and the public in general by providing opportunities to exercise or meet re: health issues.

Personnel Ministry-Works closely with the Congregation Council to insure that personnel policies are in place, that staff positions are posted and filled, and that personnel performance reviews are done.

Prayer Chain-The prayer chain is a method in which members of our congregation pray for our congregation, our friends, and families.

Reconciling In Christ-Facilitates the congregational discussion and decision-making on Gloria Dei becoming a designated Reconciling In Christ congregation.

Ruth’s Closet Ministry-Collects gently used or new household items for women transitioning with their families out of the Women’s Safety and Resource Center shelter.

Social Justice-Lift up, support and educate social concerns based on the ELCA social issues statements and other social concerns.

Sound and Video Team-Ensures that at least one Sunday morning church service is recorded by audio for use by church members unable to attend services or who missed a service.

Stewardship Ministry-Educates the congregation about the ongoing financial requirements of the church ministry and properties and encourage church members to provide regular financial assistance as they are able.

Synod Delegates-Three delegates are sent by our church to the Oregon Synod Assembly each year.  Elected at the Annual meeting.

Visitation Pod-Visits home bound or hospitalized members of Gloria Dei and takes them communion, bulletins and service CD’s.

WELCA-Meets monthly to get better acquainted, share community information and enjoy lunch.

Worship and Music Ministry-Sees that the worship services of the congregation are conducted regularly and in accordance with Lutheran tradition and teaching.  Supervises, trains and supports all worship assistants as well as the music ministries of the congregation.  Oversees, in partnership with the Altar Guild the use and care of all paraments, altar ware, vestments and decorations used in worship.  Plans special services, encourages congregational participation and studies issues related to the worship ministry.

Youth & Family Ministries-Provides opportunities to educate the youth of our church and our community so they can grow in worship, outreach, learning, and fellowship.
