Interns at Gloria Dei
Gloria Dei partners with Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, to host a third year seminary student as an intern every year.
We started as an internship site in the fall of 2009 and are blessed to have Claire Ackley with us this year beginning August 2017.
Greetings, siblings in Christ!
My name is Claire Ackley. I’m 37 and from the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. I have a Bachelor’s degree from University Wisconsin-Parkside in Art with a minor in Spanish. I also have a background in education, specifically working with individuals with special needs. My work in this area has extended into my ministry, and reaching out to the margins is very close to my heart. Like previous Interns at Gloria Dei, I’m currently a grad student at Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. I did my Clinical Pastoral Education (chaplaincy training) at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Florida.
I’m a sister, daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, and Goddaughter of law enforcement officers, which has made Police Chaplaincy another compelling aspect of ministry for me. I have a younger brother and two amazing nephews: Abraham Shannon (7 years old) and Harrison Walter (4 years old). My parents are both divorced and remarried. So although my immediate, biological family is very small, I have a very large extended family of step-cousins and the like. Before leaving for seminary, I was a mentor to three beautiful young ladies through a great program called Big Sisters of Greater Racine, and this is something I would like to do more of after grad school. I enjoy hanging out with my dog (a cockapoo named Padfoot), reading, making art in just about any form, and watching nerdy things like Harry Potter and Doctor Who.
My significant other and I are both extremely excited about spending the next 12 months in Coos Bay, and I’m very much looking forward to learning and growing with you all.
Grace and peace,
